Iran's tenth presidential election on June 12, took place against a backdrop of discrimination, worsening repression of dissent and violent unrest. Thousands of demonstrators faced violent response when they took to the streets in Iran to protest against the announcement of the victory of incumbent president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the presidential elections.
