Deadline: January 22nd is the deadline for the 14th annual Human Rights Press Awards – act now to submit your entries for Asia’s most prestigious journalism prizes. An award-presentation ceremony will be held at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in April 2010.
Eligibility: Open to journalists in print and electronic media. Submissions must have been produced either for publication or broadcast by journalists in Hong Kong or Macau, or by correspondents working in the Asian region. Entries must have been published or broadcast between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2009.
To be eligible, a submission should address an area covered by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and relate to Hong Kong or the Asian region. Each entry must cite the specific Article(s) of the Universal Declaration to which it pertains.
Categories: Newspapers, magazines, commentary, radio, TV, online, photography and cartoons. English-language and Chinese-language entries are judged by separate panels. Photographs are judged by a joint panel.
Nomination: Entrants may nominate themselves. Members of the public may also nominate work that they feel is worthy of attention. All awards honor individuals unless specified otherwise.
Criteria: The Human Rights Press Awards aim to create increased respect for the basic rights of all people. Judges look for originality, professionalism, effort, depth of understanding and, where relevant, courage on the part of the journalists or publisher.
