AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL HONG KONG

Deadline: January 22 is the deadline for the 14th annual Human Rights Press Awards – act now to submit your entries for Asia’s most prestigious journalism prizes. An award ceremony will be held at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in April.
 
Eligibility: Open to journalists in print and electronic media. Entries must have been produced for publication or broadcast either by (1) journalists in Hong Kong or Macau, or (2) by correspondents working in the Asian region. Entries must have been published or aired during the 2009 calendar year.
 
Entries must address an area covered by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and relate to Hong Kong or the Asian region. Each entry must cite the specific Article(s) of the Universal Declaration to which it pertains. The UDHR can be viewed at http://un.org/Overview/rights.html
 
Categories: Newspapers, magazines, commentary, radio, TV, online, photography and cartoons. English-language and Chinese-language entries are judged by separate panels. Photographs are judged by a joint panel.

Nomination: Entrants may nominate themselves. Members of the public may also nominate work they consider worthy of attention. All awards honor individuals unless specified otherwise.
 
Criteria: The Human Rights Press Awards aim to create increased respect for the basic rights of all people. Judges look for originality, professionalism, effort, depth of understanding and, where relevant, courage on the part of the journalists or publisher.
