Write For Rights |
WOULD YOU WRITE A LETTER FOR US?
But who writes letters these day?
What if we tell you that your letters not only promote freedom and human rights, it also saves the lives of human rights defenders, and victims of torture and other individuals at risk... Would you give it a second thought? Using the power of the pen, you will pressure authorities to release those who have been unjustly imprisoned and to stop the torture and abuse of others.
SUCCESS STORIES
Murat Kurnaz, had been held for four years and eight months without charge or trial in Guantánamo , was released about intense lobbying from his family, his lawyer and AI members around the world. He was 24 when he was set free. Like many others held at Guantánamo, Murat Kurnaz was held for years despite little evidence to link him to "terrorist" activities. (Read an interview Kurnaz did with Amnesty International USA in Spring 2008)
Ma Khin Khin Leh a school teacher, was freed from prison in Myanmar (Burma) on February 21, 2009. She was arrested 10 years earlier for allegedly planning a demonstration to protest the deteriorating economic and human rights environment in Myanmar. For this "crime," she was sentenced to life in prison. AI members worldwide have worked for Ma Khin Khin Leh’s release for many years.
