This year, the annual July 1 demonstration will take place against the backdrop of a number of issues, such as minimum wage, political reform, the widening gap between the rich and the poor, and namely the recent actions taken by the government to limit freedom of expression.

Less than one month ago, during commemoration activities of the 21st anniversary if the Tiananmen Crackdown, the police confiscated the Goddess of Democracy on the grounds that the organizer did not apply for a "Public Entertainment License".

Hong Kong has ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which entitles everyone to the right to freedom of expression without arbitrary interference and by various means, including artistic expression.

AIHK urges the HKSAR government to ensure that Hong Kong's commitments under the ICCPR to uphold freedom of expression and the right of peaceful protest are upheld, even in public areas that are not administered by the government.

March with AIHK at the annual July 1 demonstration to protect freedom of expression!
