“Burma VJ”

In September 2007, the biggest protest since 1988, led by the monks, broke out in Rangoon. It was massive but peaceful. The protest was violently cracked down by the government and foreign journalists were even denied entry into Myanmar to report the situation.

At this Friday Coffee Talk, we will screen “Burma VJ”, an Academy Award nominated documentary by Anders Østergaard.

Burma VJ shows us the world of Myanmar’s video journalists who risk torture and life in jail to make sure we can’t ignore what is happening inside their closed country.

We are delighted to invite Mabel Au, the co-convener of Hong Kong Coalition for a Free Burma, to share her experience about her trip to Myanmar this May.
