"Dukot" Screening and Letter Writing Meeting |
Dukot tackles the worsening human-rights situation in the Philippines and the abhorrent practice of enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings. It exposes the involvement of state security forces in the increasing number of enforced disappearances in the country. The film, released in 2009also provides a glimpse of how families of victims cope and search for their loved ones.
In the Maguindanao massacre in November 2009, 53 people, including the family of an opposition candidate, and a number of journalists were murdered by a paramilitary group linked to the powerful Ampatuan clan.
This was the most dramatic in a history of political killings and disappearances in the Philippines. Amnesty International has been campaigning for an end to impunity for political killings and the disbanding of private armies. To show our solidarity with the families of the murdered journalists, we are asking Amnesty members and supporters to write messages of support which we will send on to the families.
