Human rights should be included in pre-primary education

We filed a submission to the Curriculum Development Council on the Review of the “Guide to the Pre-primary Curriculum” (2006) Executive Summary (Draft for Discussion) in September. We urge the Council to strengthen human rights education in the draft curriculum guide with reference to international human rights treaties. A human rights friendly learning environment should be created for children to learn about and develop respect for human rights.

‘Adhere to Righteousness – 20 Years of Human Rights Press Awards.
Now in their 20th year, the Human Rights Press Awards were the first press awards held in Hong Kong. Founded by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Journalists Association and Amnesty International Hong Kong, the awards were first held in 1996. Over the past two decades, the Human Rights Press Awards have witnessed changes in different dimensions of human rights across Asia. What then has changed in Hong Kong?

Amnesty International Hong Kong took the chance to publish the book ‘Adhere to Righteousness – 20 Years of Human Rights Press Awards.  This book compiles a select number of award-winning works into different categories in accordance with their related articles in the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with the purpose of giving readers a deeper understanding of the human rights situation in Hong Kong in different aspects, including Freedom of Expression, Economic Rights, Gender Equality, Ethnic Minorities, Children’s Rights and Rights of Disabled Persons.
