We Demand Full Investigation into Information Exposed and Stronger Protections for Whistleblowers.
Former U.S. President Obama commuted the sentence of Chelsea Manning on 17 Jan. “President Obama was right to commute her sentence, but it is long overdue. It is unconscionable that she languished in prison for years while those allegedly implicated by the information she revealed still haven’t been brought to justice,” said Margaret Huang, executive director of Amnesty International USA.

活動預告 UPCOMING EVENTS
Amnesty International Hong Kong has announced its upcoming exhibition, entitled <Carnival> which is to be held in KONG Art Space, Hong Kong’s first privately-owned contemporary art museum from 16-26 February 2017. The exhibition seeks to promote freedom of expression through a series of art activities including performances, education programmes, an art auction and charity dinners.
Education has long been close to the heart of AIHK’s work. <Carnival> serves as a platform for artists to incorporate educational elements into their artistic endeavors, with the aim to introduce the public to the world of human rights through an artistic lens. There are 15 workshops in different forms, including photography, yoga, dance, poetry, movie, music and handicrafts. Our artists and guest speakers hope to adopt a variety of methods through which participants can explore the relationship between human rights, the arts and education.
The Professional Code for Teachers should embody human rights
Recently we filed a Chinese submission to the Council on Professional Conduct in Education on "Code for the Education Profession of Hong Kong cum Practical Guidelines". Although teachers play a critical role in human rights education, the consultation draft does not pay sufficient regards to human rights. Some of the provisions are vague and may limit freedom of expression and privacy of teachers in an excessive manner. For example, the scope of the code extends to private facebook and Whatsapp communication etc. We urge the Council to strengthen human rights elements in the Code by incorporating the aims of education enshrined by the international human rights treaties as well as 4 principles of the rights of the child. In addition to maintaining the image of the profession, the rights of teachers shall be respected.
