It has been three years since the Umbrella Movement. In these 3 years, some activists who participated in this largely peaceful protest were prosecuted, and even imprisoned based on public order laws.
Peaceful assembly is indispensable right. However, across the globe, many regimes attempt to silence activists by charging them with rigid laws. Regimes incite fear and create chilling effects, eventually threaten citizen participation in peaceful assembly. While in Hong Kong, the Public Order Ordinance was repeated criticised by the UN Human Rights Committee that it is not fully compatible with international human rights laws and standards
We would invite you to join our action, to Support the #FreedomofAssembly in Hong Kong with your photos, while support those who are imprisoned when exercising their rights wit you words.
STOP THE ETHNIC CLEANSING IN MYANMAR, STOP KILLING
Since the 25th August, around 412,000 people have fled Myanmar to nearby Bangladesh due to brutal violence and killings. It is the world's fastest-growing refugee crisis. It is ethnic cleansing.
Sites inhabited by the Rohingya people in Rakhine State have been set alight by Myanmar’s security forces and vigilante mobs and villages have been burnt to the ground. Even as many of the Rohingya people have been seriously injured, the Myanmar government has still restricted humanitarian aid to enter into Rakhine State, isolating the Rohingya people from water, food and medical resources.
This is ethnic cleansing which amounts to a crime against humanity. Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's State Counsellor and de facto leader, has not only taken no action to ease the situation but also denied the horrors unfolding in Rakhine State.
Human Rights Friday: From wrongful conviction to freedom – Conversation with an ex-death row inmate
